CANCER is not always Pink. Here in the UK March is Brain Tumour Awareness month. Brain Tumours are the cancer that are responsible for killing the most people under the age of 40, yet only 1% of cancer research spending in the UK goes towards researching brain tumours.

Brain tumours are typically harder to spot even when you do go and see a doctor. They will normally start with constant headaches and double vision, which are hard to diagnose. Also, due to the position of a brain tumour it is hard to treat. Operations are usually not an option, neither is chemotherapy. Radiotherapy can usually help slow a growth and in rare occasions leave the growth dormant or shrink it.

This is important to me because a brain tumour has affected my life in a very real way. Back in early 2015 my late wife was diagnosed with a brain tumour, news that is hard for anyone to take, but for someone so young it was devastating news which turned our whole world upside down. It is the main reason I have come to 3DX, to escape, to keep my mind active, to not overthink things. Sadly, earlier this month my wife ended her fight with a brain tumour passing away peacefully leaving a very big void in my life and our two young children. The most beautiful person, my best friend and wife of 5 years. You will never be forgotten.

I would like to take the time to thank all my friends in 3DX. Even if you did not know, you have made this place fun, happy and relaxed, which at the end of it all should be what this place is about. Although 3DX is different things to different people. I would like to make a special mention to the following people:

JoweyM, LadyLiliana, Eraphia, Epithany, Catriona, Talmanes, ComfortKitty, PennyBree, PaleShadow, AmandaHThomas, JessicaX, Morgaine, Ravenesk, HHbabe and Keriana.

I would like to raise awareness of this horrible cancer and I would like the 3DX community to be a part of that. I am arranging Brain Tumour Awareness Party on Saturday 26th March 2016 running from 5pm to midnight GMT. There will be 7 DJ's performing over 7 hours with 7 different genres of music (dark industrial, rock, metal, ska punk, reggae, 60s and funk).

There will be a mix of Temple of Lust and Angels of Desire DJs as well as 2 special guest DJs.

  • Xanar - Rock - 17:00 - 18:00
  • DanielaM - Metal - 18:00 - 19:00
  • CrixPL - Dark Industrial - 19:00 - 20:00
  • LauraTWK - Ska Punk - 20:00 - 21:00
  • SayaX - Reggae - 21:00 - 22:00
  • AmandaHThomas - 60s - 22:00 - 23:00
  • Epithany - Funk - 23:00 - 24:00

There has been more DJs than this but never such a wide variety of musical genres, so this is a bit of an experiment! Unfortunately, there will only be requests from Xanar.

If you love music, would like to have fun and support a good cause then please join us for what will be a special night.

The only request I make it that you wear a hat to show your support, however this is optional and your attendance is what is most important!

SUPPORT the fighters. ADMIRE the survivors. HONOUR the taken.

Thanks to Kitty and Era for helping me design the poster and both of your support in general.

I'll be out of town but I'll shave my head (as far as you know) in solidarity.

But if my hair is the same when I get back it's prolly jus cuz it grows really fast?

If my friends pass out with their shoes on that night I'll do my best to shave their heads.  (To be honest that's more for me than cancer awareness, but I think they'll get results)

This is such an important cause to support.

Three and a half years ago my brother was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He's now beaten it and made a full recovery but only because they caught it so early. The reason for that? That some cancers like testicular and breast cancer are so well publicised that he knew the significance of the lump when he found it. If it wasn't for that, he may not still be with us today.

Unfortunately, not all cancers are so well known about but that makes them no less devastating to those affected by them so, if you can make it on Saturday, please come along and help us raise awareness.

Not too long ago I have lost a very dear family member to a brain tumor, it still doesn't feel easy to talk about it, first the diagnosis hitting and shaking you with it's full force when the doctor give an expected lifespan for no more than 6 months at the very best as you are to learn it is a very aggressive and a malacious form of tumor.

And when after the initial shock all strings are pulled, trying every possible source for a cure with costs demanding them to even sell their house, operations without gurantee of survival, trying to fit him into experimental trials, seeing him struggle and fight, paler day by the day and scarred by the immense exertions pulling on the body anyone else couldn't possibly imagine, you realize it's importance with a great sadness and lasting shock.

When the candle of someone's life slowly burns down to the last bit, yet you have one last straw of hope, the operation goes well, he seems peaceful and even reaches a moment of clarity just to recieve a crushing call a few days later, telling you that he fell asleep placidly and never woke up again. In the end that type of cancer was still incurable.

I don't mean to attribute more importance to brain tumors than to other illnesses but I strongly believe and can't stress enough that awareness as well as facilitating the research is absolutely paramount and I genuinely thank you for all your efforts.

I completely agree Cheyenne. One of the hardest things was hearing the news that my wife had a brain tumour, given 4 months to live. That is not something you expect to have to deal with in your 30s with 2 young children. The only thing you can do is try different things, radiotherapy and a whole bunch or different treatments and diets, which may help lengthen their life by a few months or by some miracle cure itself. My wife managed to fight if for 7 months, she was strong and surrounded by loved ones.

You kind of take for granted the small things in life. Spending time with people, telling people that you love them. It is those small things I miss the most. If you have people close, tell them regularly that you love them and spend lots of time with them, it can never be enough, because you never know what is around the corner.

Thanks to Xanar who has agreed to host the party. My room 1 looks like a construction site at the moment with random bits of furniture and blocks strewn around the place and room 2 looks like an underground vampires lair both of which are unsuitable it seems :P
