Streaming issues

I have recently developed issues with streaming on "my radio" in 3dx chat.

It seems only about half of the members that enter my room while I am streaming can actually hear my stream. It is NOT an issue where they failed to enable radio. They simply cannot hear my stream.

I even tried switching from Winamp and shoutcast over to Radio DJ and shoutcast, I tried reinstalling 3dx chat. None of which made any difference.

I have encountered other members of 3dx that are having the very same issue.

I tried writing Red Devil games twice about the issue, but of course they never replied. I assume they are too busy counting our money to answer questions?

I was wondering if anyone else may know what might be causing this issue and if there is any plans on fixing it any time soon? Or is it perhaps just an issue with shoutcast? I am at a total loss.

Thanks in advance

James

Hey Jimmy,

This sounds most odd but familiar. When you are putting the stream in, what URL are you putting in? The direct http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx IP URL of your server or is it linked up with a Hostname URL like http://xxx.myradiostream.com:xxxx for example?

As I have noticed with other servers that if it uses a host name rather than the direct IP URL of the server it only works for some but not all.

But the direct IP URL works for all. Have you tried that? If you have, you may need to contact your ShoutCast host provider explaining them this issue, as it is an issue with hosts rather than the game itself.

Regards

Ash

I have been using the direct IP URL, even when I was using Winamp and shoutcast and it worked fine. Then suddenly one day only certain people could hear it, and at the very same time, that same day, friends of mine also started experiencing the same issue. I switched to Radio DJ and a completely different pay server and it did nothing to help the situation.

I am still thinking it is an issue with 3dx itself. I am still waiting for a reply from them ....

I know there's an issue if you use something where you stream directly to other users, you hit a bandwith cap and noone else will hear the stream simply because your bandwith cannot handle all of those connections. Also, every person listening takes up a slot, so you need to make sure you have enough slots on your server for the amount of people listening. I hope some of this helps.

There are also a lot stream resellers where sell streams with unlimited listeners and with 320kbit/s but without guarantee :)

Because the internet upload of the servers from the resellers are also limited. To sell 100 streams with 320kbit/s and unlimited listener slots will work if each Server haven't many listeners. But when 100 Servers have 100 listeners with 320kbit/s so is for the reseller a upload of 3200MBit needed. Trust me not each reseller have this resources :D

At last is the effect the same like the here discussed problem, some listeners have no music.

I installed patch 339 and changed servers with my stream and the problem magically fixed itself.

I do think something had become corrupt with patch 336 on 3DX's side. Of course I will never know since they never respond to paying customers' complaints ... I mean unless it is to some member who has been here 3 years that loves to stir up trouble. They always respond to those.

Thank you everyone for your help, it is much appreciated. ;)

Personally I have never had any issues with HMC Hosting Member Center (Icecast) which I used previously, and now I never had issues with Gecko (the one currently listed in Jessica's signature). I highly recommend Gecko, it is proven to work. I have had about 80 people on it no problems and Jess has had about 125 (probably more :P ) on hers. I have not found a better value streaming host anywhere that is also very reliable.

I have heard of people having issues with MyRadioStream and also issues with people using 96kbps on 3DX Chat. I believe MyRadioStream uses Shoutcast 1, whereas Gecko uses Shoutcast 2, so I believe the issue could be with Shoutcast 1. A lot of hosts, including HMC use Shoutcast 1 still. Gecko uses Shoutcast 2. If your host does use Shoutcast 1 then use Icecast if that have that option or move to Gecko (btw, I don't work for Gecko!). The sound quality is noticeably worse on Shoutcast 1 as well. Shoutcast 2 and Icecast work best.

Shoutcast V1 or Shoutcast V2 makes no differences :) The difference of this both versions are in the Plugins.

We streamed for years in 3DXChat with Shoutcast V1 without problems.

Problems comes mostly with the used Transcoder Plugin and streamed Formates.

As best works the stable MP3 Formate for both Versions! We had in the past problems with AAC or OGG Formates.

I've no experiences with MyRadioStream but I think the Free Versions is a kind of Demo or Trial without guarantee of Resources and Limits :)

But for this should an eye in the therms be helpful.
