I finally got something together that should work on EVERY system. Even a Pentium 2 potato should be able to run this. This removes the ingame blur effect, fixes colors and some more minor things.

Haven't got around to actually implementing anything like lens flare or a better blurring algorithm. Default blur sucks.

 

Planned features:

Hexagonal blur

Better depth check

Lens flare through bloom? Maybe god rays?

SSAO

DOF shaders

Stop using SweetFX and turn this into something like 3DX FX or whatever

Tilt Shift

 

These settings use the following:

• SMAA heavy. Tone down threshold if you like.
• Bloom.
• HDR.
• LumaSharpen
• Levels
• DPX
• Technicolor
• Tonemap
• Vignette (very minor, you'll hardly notice)
• Sepia

Installation:

 

Extract .RAR in 3DXChat root folder.

Start game. SweetFX should load.

Press ScrollLock to turn off (or on) SweetFX. Default is on.

whats the point of this ?    

 

The difference in the pics is a matter of taste, one is not clearly superior to the other.

The difference isn't really a matter of taste. The difference is increasing graphical fidelity. By default, the game has an ugly blur effect and everything looks smoothed out. Zoom in on textures with these settings and it'll all look better in general.

 

Also the default colors are wrong. It's just color correction, not meant to look good.

 

Also if I would start implementing god rays or SSAO, you can't even argue 'taste' anymore. God rays or lens flare is a feature, not a thing that can be called taste.
